October
19, 2012 - The old shredder
that I picked up last year was not useable for shelling
beans and peas since it did not have a hammermill-type
mechanism.
So being that it was
again harvest time, thoughts returned to the tasks of
threshing dry beans an peas. My buddy in Tennessee
found this Mighty Mac shredder about 30 minutes from our farm and I
called, ran up there and picked it up.
The list retail on a
new machine is $1,899. I got this one off of
Craig's List for $400! As you can see from the
pictures, it has not been used very much or very hard.
The next step will be
to convert the hammermill to a thresher using Allen Dong
and Roger Edberg's plans, a copy of which can be found
at the
Victory Horticultural Library.
