The Austrian Pine, as its name implies,
is native to Austria, as well as to Northern Italy and Yugoslavia. It was
reportedly first introduced into the United States in 1759.
Since it is very hardy and can withstand
heat and drought, along with varying soil types, it sounded like a good
candidate for our highway frontage screen. They grows to about sixty
feet in height with a spread ranging from twenty to forty feet.
You can check out our perimeter buffer
tree line planted in the spring of 2011.
